Hey Skinnies!

How are you all doing? Man, it's been a minute! I trust you've all had a smashing few weeks.

I know what many of you have been thinking... "Chef Rod, where have you disappeared to? Why haven't you posted a blog in over a month?"

Well, to be honest, life has been wonderfully busy. Between work, new projects, judging culinary competitions and everything happening behind the scenes, I simply haven't had much time—or even many moments—to sit down and write.

But this week, the inspiration returned, and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than with this very special milestone.

One Hundred Blogs... Wow!

Chef in hat stirs food in a cozy kitchen studio, with The Skinny Chef text, health bowls, and chalkboard slogans.

When I started The Skinny Chef Diaries, my goal was simple: to share my journey, my passion for food, and the lessons I've learnt both inside and outside the kitchen.

Over the past 100 blogs, we've explored healthy eating, restaurant consulting, culinary competitions, entrepreneurship, love, travel, intermittent fasting, wellness, and countless delicious recipes.

Every story has been another ingredient in this incredible journey, and every reader has been part of making it worthwhile.

It seems only fitting that Blog #100 celebrates something that reminded me exactly why I fell in love with cooking in the first place...

Innovation.

A Kitchen Revolution Arrives at Home

This week, I had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Soula and Danielle from Thermomix into our home for a live demonstration of the brand-new Thermomix TM7.

Three people prep vegetables in a busy kitchen; woman in green Thermomix apron holds trays of sliced carrots, zucchini, and potatoes.

Now, as professional chefs, we're naturally sceptical whenever a machine claims it can "do it all." Years spent in busy kitchens have taught me that no appliance can replace experience, intuition or proper culinary skills.

But...

The right technology can certainly make a chef's life easier.

And I have to admit...

The Thermomix TM7 genuinely impressed me.

The First Test: Lentil & Tomato Soup

We began with a beautifully balanced lentil and tomato soup.

Watching the TM7 chop, sauté, cook and blend everything in a single bowl was fascinating. It highlighted just how much preparation time it can eliminate without sacrificing flavour or quality.

The soup developed an incredible depth of flavour while requiring very little hands-on attention—a real game-changer for busy households or anyone looking to cook wholesome meals more efficiently.

Fresh Bread... Because Every Home Needs That Aroma

Sliced bread and orange soup on a wooden board in a kitchen, with a tablet showing a soup recipe nearby.

Next came something that always makes a house feel like home...

Freshly baked bread.

There is something almost magical about the smell of warm bread filling every corner of the kitchen.

The Thermomix effortlessly mixed and kneaded the dough before it was left to proof and baked into a beautifully rustic loaf with a crisp golden crust and a wonderfully soft, fluffy interior.

For any passionate home cook, that's incredibly satisfying.

The Ultimate Test... Hollandaise

Then came one of the sauces that has intimidated generations of aspiring chefs...

Hollandaise.

Traditionally, Hollandaise requires patience, continuous whisking and perfect temperature control. Look away for a few seconds and the sauce can split.

Watching the Thermomix produce a silky-smooth, velvety Hollandaise with such consistency was genuinely impressive.

It reminded me that technology isn't about replacing the fundamentals—it's about giving people the confidence to master them.

Ending on a Sweet Note

Of course, no Thermomix demonstration would be complete without dessert.

We finished with a refreshing mixed berry sorbet bursting with natural fruit flavour, followed by a beautifully delicate berry foam that looked as though it belonged in a

Michelin-starred restaurant.

Elegant.

Light.

Vibrant.

And surprisingly simple to create.

More Than Just Another Kitchen Gadget

Throughout the evening, I found myself asking questions, exploring features and imagining how this technology could fit into culinary education, home kitchens and even selected professional environments.

Nothing will ever replace proper knife skills, palate development, classical training or the discipline that comes with years in the kitchen.

But modern equipment like the Thermomix gives chefs another creative tool—one that saves time, improves consistency and allows us to focus on what really matters...

Creating exceptional food.

As someone who is deeply passionate about teaching, I can already see how machines like this could encourage more people to cook confidently at home while also allowing experienced chefs to experiment with new techniques and work more efficiently.

Lessons from the TM7

  • Innovation should complement skill—not replace it.

  • Great cooking will always begin with quality ingredients.

  • Technology can eliminate repetitive tasks, giving chefs more time to be creative.

  • Learning never stops, no matter how many years you've spent in the kitchen.

Looking Back... And Looking Forward

Reaching Blog #100 has reminded me just how much the culinary world continues to evolve.

Whether it's mastering classical French sauces, embracing modern kitchen technology, mentoring young chefs, judging competitions like Chef of Steel 2026, or building exciting new projects behind the scenes, every experience becomes another chapter in this incredible journey.

To everyone who has read, shared, commented on and supported The Skinny Chef Diaries over these first one hundred blogs...

Thank you.

Your encouragement continues to inspire me to keep cooking, teaching and writing.

Here's to the next hundred!

Well... if I'm being honest, I may have to let The Skinny Makoti catch up first! 😂

Jokes aside, she has been the brains behind so much of the Skinny Chef journey. Thank you, Shadre, for believing in me, supporting my crazy ideas and walking this incredible road beside me. I truly couldn't have done it without you.

A very special thank you also goes to Limbikani, my right-hand man, whose creativity has transformed these blogs into something visually beautiful every single week. Your graphic work has elevated The Skinny Chef Diaries beyond words alone.

From the bottom of my heart...

'Thank you both for believing in the dream and for riding this journey with me.'
