Hello fellow Skinny readers… a happy, blessed Good Friday to you all, Skinnies! I trust you’ve had an incredible week, and even more importantly, that you’re ready to enjoy this well-deserved long Easter weekend.

To those of you travelling this Easter, please be safe on those busy roads. This is a season of happiness, reflection, and gratitude… and speaking of happiness, I’ve got some beautiful news to share.

I finally popped the question.

So it’s official, Skinnies… the love of my life, my creative director, my best friend also known as the Skinny Makoti, Shadre Leonard and I are engaged! Whoop whoop! I honestly cannot wait to call you my wife.

Now I’m sure the Skinny Makoti is already cooking up a banger blog about our engagement so let’s leave it right there for now before I say too much! 😄

But the real reason we’re all gathered here this week? To celebrate Easter… and one very special ingredient that’s stealing the spotlight avocado.

There’s something about this season that just feels right. Slower mornings, fuller tables, laughter echoing through kitchens… and right at the heart of it all is food that brings us together.

Avocado as a lifestyle

Woman in a teal top smiles while holding avocado toast. Another person is blurred in the foreground. Warm indoor lighting sets a cozy mood.

And right now, avocado isn’t just food it’s a whole lifestyle.

From brunch boards to viral TikTok hacks, avo has become the symbol of soft living, wellness, and indulgence without guilt. And here in South Africa? We’re truly spoiled.

Our locally grown avocados are world-class rich, creamy, and bursting with flavour.

This Easter, it’s about celebrating that local abundance… about turning everyday meals into moments worth remembering.

Because let’s be honest Easter can get indulgent. Chocolate here, hot cross buns there… it’s a beautiful mess of sweetness. But that’s where avocado steps in, bringing balance to the celebration.

Think glowing skin from those healthy fats. Think improved mood and brain function yes, avo really does bring that happy energy. Think fullness that keeps you satisfied longer, and fiber that supports gut health, giving you clarity, lightness, and steady energy.

It’s not just food it’s your post-hot-cross-bun reset.

And here’s the magic part… avocados are actually mood boosters. Packed with nutrients like folate and potassium, they help support serotonin production your feel-good hormone. So that creamy avo toast you’re enjoying? That’s not just breakfast… that’s self-care.

Local is Lekker

Even better? It’s local.

South Africa stands proudly as one of the top avocado producers in the world, with regions like Limpopo and Mpumalanga leading the way. So when you’re enjoying avo this Easter, you’re not just feeding yourself you’re supporting local farmers, enjoying fresher produce, better flavour, and contributing to a lower carbon footprint.

Local really is lekker.

The fun part...

Now let’s talk about the fun side of things because you know the Skinny Chef doesn’t play when it comes to flavour and creativity.

Picture this… frozen avo cubes sitting in your freezer, ready to transform your smoothies into instant creamy perfection. No hassle, just pure indulgence. Then there’s the grated avocado trend—yes, Skinnies, we’re grating avo over toast like cheese now. TikTok made us do it… but honestly, we’re not complaining.

And for those sweet cravings? Avo chocolate mousse is still reigning supreme. Rich, silky, decadent… yet secretly healthy. That’s the kind of balance we love.

Even your air fryer is getting in on the action this Easter avo fries that are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Tell me that’s not a game changer.

Take a bite of that sweet Easter Spirit

Four people in colorful outfits celebrate on a confetti-lined street, surrounded by South African flags, with tall buildings in the background.

But Easter isn’t just about what’s happening at home it’s also about getting out and soaking in the vibe.

Across South Africa, the foodie scene is alive this weekend. Think Easter brunch markets in Joburg, Cape Town, and Durban, buzzing with energy and flavour. Wine farm picnics offering beautiful harvest menus under open skies. Luxury hotel buffets bringing out the best in seafood and fresh seasonal produce.

And for those who love a bit of street culture? Pop-up food markets and festivals are calling your name, while family-friendly Easter picnics with gourmet stalls create the perfect balance between fun and flavour.

Back to the Kitchen

Avocado rose on seeded toast garnished with pink petals and sesame seeds, served on a white plate with arugula. Bright, fresh setting.

Back in your own kitchen though… that’s where the real magic happens.

Imagine serving avo devilled eggs with a twist swapping out mayo for avocado, creating something creamy, fresh, and lighter. Add a touch of paprika and crispy bacon bits… elite.

Or create an Easter avo toast board that becomes the centrepiece of your table. Smashed avo, pickled onions, feta with a drizzle of honey, smoked salmon, boiled eggs… it’s effortless hosting with maximum impact.

Dessert? That avocado chocolate Easter mousse hits differently this time of year. Blended with cocoa, honey or maple syrup, and dark chocolate, then topped with berries or mini Easter eggs… indulgence without the guilt.

If you’re looking for something fresh and satisfying, a grilled chicken and avo Easter salad brings it all together juicy chicken, creamy avocado, bursts of mango or orange, crisp greens, and a citrus dressing that lifts every bite.

And then… just when you think you’ve seen it all…

The avo and hot cross bun sandwich.

Yes, Skinnies. Toasted bun, avo, cheese, a drizzle of honey… sweet, salty, creamy—and completely addictive.

Bet you wanna sit at Skinny chefs Avo table, this Easter. You can even bring your pickle fish along ! Or leave it at home! Ha ha!

Avo Tip

Avocados in a green mesh bag sit on a wooden surface, with soft light casting shadows on the neutral background.

Before I let you go, here’s a little Skinny Chef wisdom to carry into your Easter kitchen.

Always go for slightly firm avocados they’ll ripen perfectly at home, right on your timing.

Need to speed things up? Pop them into a paper bag with a banana. A little lemon juice keeps that beautiful green colour from browning, and don’t forget—salt just before serving for that perfect flavour pop.

And as we bring this Easter story to a close, let’s remember what it’s really about.

It’s not about perfection it’s about presence. About shared meals, meaningful moments, and food that makes you feel good from the inside out.

So this Easter, skip the ordinary. Lean into something fresh, local, and full of life. Because avocado isn’t just in season…

It is the moment.

And honestly?

Happiness really is in season.

That wraps up this week’s Easter special, Skinnies. Thank you for tuning in, for sharing in this moment, and for always bringing the love.

Enjoy your Easter weekend stay healthy, stay happy, and most importantly… stay skinny.

Same time, same place. 🔥🐣✨
